Yet another thing that makes me go, "Hmmmm"

How can this nasty looking bowl of green glopiness, taste so good* on a cold winter's day?

*disclaimer:  My husband does not share my opinion on this. :)

Split Pea Soup
1 package (16 oz.) dried green split peas, rinsed
1 hambone (HoneyBaked Ham has great ones!)
OR
2 cups diced ham
3 carrots, peeled & sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced

1T celery salt or 2 stalks celery, chopped
1 bay leaf
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
salt (to taste)
1/2 teaspoon fresh pepper
1 1/2 quart hot water (or chicken broth)

Directions:
Combine all  ingredients in slow cooker. Cover and cook on high 4 to 5 hours or on low 8 to 10 hours until peas are very soft and ham falls off bone. Remove bones and bay leaf.  Enjoy

This is my FAVORITE soup! I love soup so crazy much. I think I may need to get this on the menu this week.
